Amanda Chiu's yearlong Fellowship with the Worldwatch Institute was anchored in the Energy and Climate Change program. She tackled a wide range of issues, including cogeneration, a low-carbon future for the U.S., renewable energy and energy efficiency policies, and climate negotiations in the domestic and international arena. Amanda contributed to the Low Carbon Energy: A Roadmap report and authored articles on cogeneration, sanitation, and solar thermal heating, as well as a sidebar comparing biomass for electricity and heating to biomass for biofuels. As part of a team, Amanda found authors for and helped edit and review the Institute's flagship publication, State of the World 2009: Into a Warming World.

Amanda also posted a blog from Poznań, Poland, where she attended the 14th Conference of Parties (COP 14) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC):

In addition, Amanda attended numerous briefings and conferences within D.C. She also represented the Institute at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change's (UNFCCC) international climate change negotiations (COP14) in Poznań, Poland and wrote 5 blog posts about her experiences and the ongoing talks:

"I have a better idea of how D.C. and ‘policymaking' works and a greater understanding of just how necessary policies are for renewable energy and energy efficiency to take off. And I've gone to meetings and places that I never would have expected to find myself a year ago."

"MAP Fellows have become integral to the Institute's energy and climate work, functioning as full members of the team, bringing their skills, creativity, and energy to a range of research and writing projects. We'd have a hard time functioning without them."

President, Worldwatch Institute
