Graduation Date: June 2012
Degree(s): M.S. Civil and Environmental Engineering; B.S. Civil Engineering (Structures and Construction)

Andrew worked on a number of climate and energy related issues in the Climate Center at NRDC. For the first half of the summer, the entire environmental community was geared towards passing comprehensive legislation to reduce national greenhouse gas emissions. Andrew worked to provide research support on various versions of a climate bill analyzing how each bill would impact different sectors and communities. He worked with the political and communications teams within NRDC to pen op-eds and articles in support of legislation. He also worked with some former colleagues at The Walt Disney Company to help develop the business case for comprehensive climate change legislation.

As Congress prepared for recess, it was clear that the environmental community would be unsuccessful in getting a comprehensive bill passed in this Congress. Andrew quickly transitioned his work to research and support in continuing efforts to protect the Clean Air Act. Working with health experts at NRDC, Andrew helped develop fact sheets and research materials specifically related to health benefits of clean air that could be used in NRDC's efforts to protect one of the most fundamental environmental laws in our country. Finally, Andrew worked with scientists in the Climate Center to help set up a process for recording and analyzing real-time weather and temperature data to monitor the immediate impacts of climate change.

“Having an opportunity to be in Washington, DC for the summer was a great to expand my connections and networks. Furthermore, seeing the type of work that NRDC does, seeing how other advocacy groups in Washington work, and getting a sense of what it would be like to work there full-time was incredibly helpful in helping me establish a career path.”

Andrew Peterman

“The work Andrew produced was very helpful to our goals. For example, he published several op-eds in ID and CO newspapers and did significant work on a record summer temperature report and published an interview with the Disney EVP in our magazine.”

Antonia Herzog, Assistant Director
