Graduation Date: June 2010
Degree(s): M.S Earth Systems; B.S Earth Systems

Chris worked with NRDC’s India Team in San Francisco. He researched and published a fact sheet on India’s opportunity for energy efficiency in buildings, and helped to coordinate a three-week trip to India in September 2010 where that information could be presented to stakeholders. During the trip, Chris and the team met with a broad group of government officials, civil society, and businesspeople regarding all four of the India Initiative’s four projects: US-India Cooperation, Energy Efficiency, Environmental Compliance, and Public Health. The highlight was undoubtedly the two days spent in Hyderabad, where the team met with their local partner and co-hosted a workshop with builders, architects, and politicians in attendance.

Chris also published blogs on Indian energy policy, and co-authored a forthcoming piece on clean energy finance with Vinod Khosla and other NRDC staff.

“The Fellowship exposed me to a realm of policymaking and implementation on environment issues that I otherwise could not have gained. The most exciting thing about my experience was that I did the research and analysis you would normally do at a think thank, but also had the opportunity to implement that first-hand through advocacy work.”

Chris Bennett

“The MAP Fellow provides extremely valuable resources for analysis, research, and writing on clean energy and climate change issues in India. The Fellows bring a balance of technical skills and policy knowledge, which is very important to both our on the ground activities in Indian on energy efficiency and our policy updates. Finally, the MAP Fellow adds to NRDC’s institutional goal of developing top environmental talent and leadership. It is refreshing to discuss these prominent issues with smart graduates who have just studied these issues.”
