As a member of RMI’s Built Environment Team, Caroline worked on sustainable building strategies for a range of project types including large mixed-used developments, city master plans, and corporate complexes. She co-authored a chapter on integrated design for the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB), traveled to Argentina to help with the “greening” of the FOX Latin America headquarters building, and developed sustainable building guidelines for Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda. Caroline was also involved with LEED certification for Summerlin, a one-hundred acre development outside of Las Vegas, and with the development of sustainable corporate and building guidelines for Daybreak, a large mixed-use development in Salt Lake City, Utah. In addition, Caroline worked with non-profit organizations at RMI including writing a proposal for the development of sustainable, affordable, housing guidelines and the creating a video “Making the Case” for green building. Caroline was also involved in a research project focused on energy-efficiency in corporate real estate. She traveled to Atlanta to participate in a charrette with operations and facilities managers from Fortune 500 companies to garner insight into the barriers and enablers for incorporating greater energy efficiency into corporate office buildings. Subsequent to her Fellowship, Caroline was offered a full-time position and will be continuing with RMI as an analyst. “I would definitely recommend that more interns come to RMI. Compared to the other 4 summer experiences I’ve had, this was by far the best. RMI really uses interns and values their contributions.” - Caroline Fluhrer “Caroline has provided major contributions to our mission.” - Greg Franta Leader, RMI Built Environment Team
