Diana Ginnebaugh is working toward a doctorate in CEE Atmosphere/Energy at Stanford University. She is working on resolving a 12,000-reaction Master Chemical Mechanism to determine the fate of organic chemicals in the atmosphere and whether they partition into the gas phase or the liquid phase. (If the chemicals form particles, they might contribute to climate change.) Fellowship Diana completed a preliminary analysis of plug-in hybrid-electric vehicles (PHEVs) for NRDC. This work now serves as the foundation for a larger, more comprehensive study. She also created a set of fact sheets for our oil security campaign, which NRDC will be handing out at events. Additionally, Diana launched NRDC’s “Set America Free” tour of eight states, in which NRDC will be giving speeches and raising public awareness about the dangers of oil dependency. Next year, NRDC will release a report on the potential of the PHEV technology, and Diana’s work serves as the starting point. The road trip she launched continues to unfold, and they will make use of her fact sheets as part of that project. Diana’s work was a key part of NRDC’s overall oil security campaign plan. “As with her predecessors, Diana had plenty of initiative, drive and intelligence so managing her really was a pleasure.” —Deron Lovaas “I’ve made connections that will help me all my life, and the experience allows me to make an educated decision about pursuing policy positions for my future career path.” —Diana Ginnebaugh
