2. California Solar Initiative PV Incentives Calculator
The California Solar Initiative incentives will be paid out on an up-front basis based on expected performance. The website to calculate this expected performance is now online. (I just tried it and... well... maybe it will work by the time you try it... gm) ***********************************************************
3. Think Greentech report on energy subsidies
Government subsidy is a subject that seems to be part of almost any conversation in the Greentech industry today. Whether you're talking about solar feed-in tariffs in Germany, the wind production tax credit in the U.S. or the $0.51/gallon ethanol subsidy in the U.S., subsidies are a hot topic. Visit ThinkEquity Partners, web site for more information. http://www.thinkequity.com/ ***********************************************************
4. Residents near nuclear plants can get free anti-radiation pills
Jan 2 - Residents or businesses within 10 miles of the Monticello and Prairie Island nuclear power plants will be offered two doses of potassium iodide as a precaution against radiation, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety said today. The dosages would offer the thyroid gland limited protection against radiation absorption, but they wouldn't protect other parts of the body. It is considered an additional safeguard in the event of a nuclear plant incident. Residents will receive a voucher that can be presented to one of six participating Target pharmacies. ***********************************************************
5. IGCC Costs Seem to be Escalating
Dec 28 - American Electric Power's Appalachian Power subsidiary said higher-than-expected costs have caused it to delay issuing a revised estimate for the next-generation, integrated-gasification, combined cycle, coal-fired power plant it wants to build in Mason County. The company said earlier this year the plant would probably cost about $1 billion. "The latest cost information is turning out to be higher than we anticipated "What we've found out is, part of the higher cost is from the construction market - concrete, steel, labor - the regular things you have in construction," Matheney said. The company previously estimated the cost of the first commercial-scale Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle power plant would be about 20 percent higher than the cost of building a conventional coal-fired power plant. ***********************************************************
6. Workshop on Solar Water Heating Technologies, Jan 18-19, San Diego
A meeting to formulate and begin the implementation of strategies to expand the market for solar water heating (SWH) technologies in the U.S will be held by the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy's Solar Energy Technologies Program on January 18 and 19, 2007 at the Marriott Courtyard San Diego Downtown hotel in San Diego, California. This workshop will explore the greenhouse gas reduction capabilities of SWH, and how SWH is playing a growing role in the Renewable Energy Credit marketplace. With the enactment into law of the federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC) this year, the SWH industry is experiencing faster growth than at any point in the last two decades, and with the prospects positive for an extension of the ITC in 2007, this trend should continue to accelerate. Still, the SWH market in Europe is far larger than that in the U.S., and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is committed to finding ways to begin to duplicate the European experience. That is why representatives from the DOE and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory will be joined in attendance by representatives from the U.S. SWH industry, the European Solar Thermal Industry Federation (ESTIF), and the German SWH industry. If you would like to attend please RSVP to Mamatha Gowda, McNeil Technologies, at mgowda@mcneiltech.com or 440-250-0629. ***********************************************************
