All are welcome to meet Prof. Weimer following the seminar in the GCEP Conference Room, 555J (upstairs on 2nd Floor).
***Refreshments will be served.***

Abstract:
Solar thermochemical processing provides an opportunity to split water with efficiencies of 18% to 24%, as compared to 6% to 8% for typical photovoltaic/electrolytic processing. For the past 10 years, Prof. Weimer has been using concentrated sunlight to drive ultra-high temperature chemical reactions to completion. Primary engineering challenges limiting extensive application revolve around solving materials problems. In this talk, Prof. Weimer will review his research program and provide an opportunity map for materials research that is needed to achieve the long-term goal to split water efficiently and cleanly.
