California Public Utilities Commission Summer Internship Program The Renewables Portfolio Standard (RPS) team at the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) is seeking two to three qualified interns for summer 2007. The California RPS is the most ambitious and far-reaching RPS in the country- California utilities are required by law to purchase 20% of their energy from renewable resources by 2010. Reaching this goal in the world's fifth-largest economy requires expansion of renewable capacity on a scale anticipated nowhere else in the U.S. California's legislature also recently passed the country's first state-wide cap on greenhouse gas emissions, and is considering an even greater RPS standard of 33% renewable energy by 2020. The CPUC team is evaluating creative ways to meet these far-reaching goals and is looking beyond the current RPS strategy of utility-scale generation.
