Hannah Burroughs

Graduation Dates: June 2011(B.S.), June 2012(M.S.)
Degree(s): B.S. Atmosphere/Energy Engineering; M.S. Mechanical Engineering

At UCS Hannah participated in three project researching, writing, analysis and infographic design.

She co-authored a paper on land use and electricity which compares the land use impacts of renewable electricity to fossil fuels and nuclear, including both land footprint and land degradation as metrics. She was the primary researcher for the paper and completed the relevant analysis.

In addition, Hannah participated in research, writing, analysis for an infographic on the various supply chain components associated with building a wind turbine and and domestic job opportunities. This infographic will be produced in conjunction with a report synthesizing recent research on supply chain job opportunities within the renewable energy technologies industry.

Finally, Hannah worked on a smaller research project to assess the environmental impacts of hydrofracking extraction for natural gas as well as identified the areas where more research is needed.

Working on a variety of projects allowed Hannah to collaborate with numerous people, think about a variety of energy issues and even had the chance to play arts and crafts as she cut, pasted (with scissors and glue not command-C&V) and drew mock infographcis.

"...it helped me develop skills for working in an office and helped teach me about the strengths and weaknesses of a large environmental non-profit. These lessons will help inform my job search and life after Stanford..."
