As the Sustainable Energy Fellow at the Worldwatch Institute, James provided research and analysis on various topics relating to energy and climate change for senior members of the climate and energy team. At the same time, he authored articles and presentations addressing such topics as world coal consumption, "clean coal" technology, renewable energy and climate policy. James attended numerous meetings, briefings and conferences as a representative of Worldwatch, including the 13th Conference of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

"Working with Worldwatch gave me the opportunity to sharpen my understanding of energy and climate policy and to offer a vision of a vibrant low-carbon economy to domestic and international policy makers, media, military officers, and business leaders."

James Russell

"The MAP-SEF Fellows have brought fresh, new perspectives to Worldwatch, and they have enhanced our energy/climate research staff and thus our ability to produce content and hopefully have more influence for positive change. All have been extremely intelligent, interesting and talented individuals and a pleasure to work with. Worldwatch is also happy to have the opportunity to provide Stanford graduates with significant opportunities in the energy/climate fields and to help advance their knowledge in these areas."
