As a MAP Fellow in NRDC's offices in Beijing and Washington D.C., Joe participated in several of NRDC's China initiatives. He conducted detailed research on available assessment tools associated with the evaluation of energy efficiency program performance. He wrote an annex on an energy efficiency assessment tool, which will be included in China's Demand-Side Management (DSM) Implementation Manual that NRDC Beijing Office is helping develop. Joe researched and summarized information on the energy, water, and pollution intensity of various industrial sectors to assist NRDC in setting priorities for its future efficiency work. And, finally, Joe researched and created a set of talking points for NRDC's presentation to Wal-mart's supply chain meeting in Beijing. "I got to see how a nonprofit works, a bit about how politics and the legal system works, got to explore DC, and met some wonderful people." Joe Westersund
"MAP fellows provide an excellent resource for NRDC in that we can assign them advanced, high level analytical tasks and expect excellent quality results." Linda Greer
Director, Health Program Natural Resources Defense Council
