NRDC | 2011 | Lauren Kubiak
Lauren Kubiak

Graduation Date: 2011
Degree(s): M.S. Earth Systems; B.S. Earth Systems

Lauren worked with the Air and Energy (now Energy and Transportation) program, spending most of her time assessing the multitude of benefits that arise from energy efficiency savings. She researched and wrote a memo synthesizing different macroeconomic modeling tools to recommend how NRDC should best quantify jobs created from energy efficiency-generated savings.

On the advocacy (and fun!) side, she coordinated and executed a clean energy business outreach road trip in the Midwest. The trip, which she also blogged about, highlights the advances that states like Michigan and Ohio have made in the clean energy economy. On the road, Lauren and the team visited two or three businesses, non-profits, or renewable energy sites each day, building up a story bank to add a human dimension to the hotly contested green jobs debate.

"One of the best parts of the fellowship was that I had the freedom to create my own role. I was able to apply my background and expertise toward planning and executing a clean energy business outreach trip, which has become a valuable tool for energy efficiency policy advocacy in the Midwest."

"As always, the MAP Fellows bring with them a strong skill set and a real willingness to dive in to their projects. In this instance, Lauren was a huge asset to one of our important initiatives, and helped to accomplish something we'd been trying to get off the ground for months."
