Michael is a research associate at Stanford University’s Program on Energy and Sustainable Development (PESD) under Prof. David Victor. At PESD, Michael is coordinating a large study on the future role of natural gas in the Indian energy system, and the options available to the Indian government to promote gas over dirtier alternatives like coal. He has written a market analysis paper on the Indian gas market that was recently accepted for publication in Petroleum Economists’ Fundamentals of the World Gas Industry, 2006 to be distributed at the World Gas Conference.

Fellowship

While at NRDC, Michael worked on a large collaborative research project analyzing the future potential of cellulosic biomass fuels in the US. He wrote sections of the report, analyzed data, and researched specific questions that helped guide the report's policy recommendations. Many of his sections of the biomass report appeared in the final report “Growing Energy: How Biofuels Can Help End America’s Oil Dependence” publication in December of 2004.

In addition, Michael wrote two testimonies for NRDC in the New York Public Utility Commission's rate cases. He argued for the need for a revenue decoupling mechanism, which would reduce the direct link between electric utilities' profits and sales of electricity.

“The MAP SEF Fellows have consistently provided valuable research, writing and analysis, and Michael was no exception.”

—Nathanael Greene

“The Fellowship was an extremely worthwhile experience. I couldn't have spent my summer more productively.”
