Departure: 6:45 am   Return: 5:00 pm
Limit: 37
Meals: Breakfast provided, bring a bag lunch.

Bus will depart and return from the top of the Oval.

This trip tours the Calpine Geothermal Visitor Center and an operating geothermal power plant. Located approximately 2.5 hours north of San Francisco, The Geysers is the largest complex of geothermal power plants in the world. Calpine owns and operates 19 of the 22 units at the Geysers with a total net generating capacity of about 725 megawatts of electricity - enough to power 725,000 homes.

After checking into the Visitor Center, we will have a presentation from one of the facility engineers and then go on a guided field tour of the steamfields and an operating power plant. Our guide will be John Farison, Director of Process Engineering for Calpine. After the visit to the power plant we will return to the visitor center for additional touring through the exhibits there.

Make sure to wear close-toed and flat soled sturdy shoes such as hiking boots. Bring photo ID and be prepared to wear mandatory hard hats, safety glasses and earplugs. Cameras are welcome, but camera cases and backpacks will need to remain on the bus.
