SAN ARDO OIL FIELD Tuesday 10/7 This trip has an unfortunately short sign-up time frame due to the advance processing requirements of the host. Students who are attending this trip who are not US citizens should speak with the TAs about some minimal requirements that will need to be addressed. Names and paperwork for all participants must be submitted to Chevron by October 2. Unfortunately, no roster changes can be accommodated after that date. For US citizens, if you are on the waiting list, your name will be submitted as a stand-by participant, and you may be eligible to attend if there are drops on the main list and seats become available. Bus will depart and return from the top of the Oval. This trip involves a 2.5-3 hour drive each way (you can sleep if you want) just south of King City on Highway 101 to visit a large oil field operated by Chevron. Rik Williams of Chevron will be our host and will provide an orientation to the field including a history of its development. Then our host will provide a tour of the field's facilities including work-over rigs, oil wells, steam injection wells and the onsite cogeneration plants that provide electricity on site and the steam required for injection into the reservoir to enhance the production of oil from this field. This is a rare opportunity to receive a tour of a giant oil field (1 billion barrels of oil in place) that is typical of those that produce in California and to learn better where oil comes from and how it is produced.
